Factors Associated with Rising Trend in Teenage Pregnancy within the West Gonja Municipality of the Savannah Region of Ghana

Background: Teenage pregnancy is a major public health problem worldwide, also in northern Ghana. The aim of this study was to identify factors contributing the rising trend teenage and resultant effects. Materials Methods: This cross-sectional using quasi-structured questionnaire on 60 pregnant teenagers. Demographic data associated with were collected/analyzed. Results: mean age respondents 17.25 ± 1.93 years. Junior high school students or graduates accounted for 55%. About 35% participants dropped out due pregnancy. following identified be pregnancy: low socio-economic status, no/less sexual- reproductive-communication parents, level education, no sexual reproductive knowledge, unsafe behaviours. consequences were: truncation girls’ psychological trauma, worsening family relationships. identified; anaemia pregnancy, severe malaria, hypertension prolonged labour. Conclusion: may account area: family-related problem, sociocultural factors, education level, lack adequate knowledge health. caused several problems themselves their members.
